New Facebook Feature – Mark You Don’t Know

January 12th, 2010

I am sure lots of you guys encountered a friend request from someone you really don’t know at all (not unless you’re a celebrity or something). Facebook is now testing a new feature that allows you to identify strangers who attempt to add you as a friend.

From Inside Facebook Blog:

Facebook has a lot of users who want to make new friends. And now the company is testing out a feature to make friending a little more meaningful. Once you mark “ignore” on a friend request, you’ll see a new option in addition to being able to report the person for abuse or spam: “Mark that you don’t know” them.

Facebook Confirm Request

So once you’ve seen a friend invite who you think is a “spammer” or you just don’t want them to add you up, you can click on that “Mark You Don’t Know” link after the “ignore” friend request. Here’s some screenshots:

This new feature is really interesting. It will definitely be a helpful feature to both the site and members. I just hope that you guys don’t use it to “Mark” everyone as a spammer even if they’re not. Use that “Mark You Don’t Know Button” respectively and wisely. Goodbye spammers! ;)

Google and Twitter Search Deal

October 22nd, 2009

Yesterday, Bing announced that they will include Twitter and Facebook on their search results. I don’t think that the search giant will not take the advantage of having Twitter on their search results for real-time search.

Google’s Vice-President of Search Products Marissa Mayer has announced that they’re going to offer Twitter a search deal.

From the Google blog post:

“Given this new type of information and its value to search, we are very excited to announce that we have reached an agreement with Twitter to include their updates in our search results. We believe that our search results and user experience will greatly benefit from the inclusion of this up-to-the-minute data, and we look forward to having a product that showcases how tweets can make search better in the coming months. That way, the next time you search for something that can be aided by a real-time observation, say, snow conditions at your favorite ski resort, you’ll find tweets from other users who are there and sharing the latest and greatest information.”

It isn’t clear yet how will the Twitter feeds will appear in Google search. It maybe merged into normal search results or can be a standalone search product just like the Google Blog Search or the Do Follow Blog Search perhaps? So if it will be merged into a normal search, how will it compete with those keywords that has strong backlinks and those that haven’t been optimized?

Anyway, Google and Microsoft is here on a battle for the best and most informative real-time search. However, Google didn’t announced about Facebook yet. And Twitter has pretty clear million dollar deals here.

Facebuko – a Facebook Wacky Version LOL

August 18th, 2009

Just this morning, my office mate dropped a link on me through Yahoo Messenger. The first time that I saw the URL of the site, I thought that this is a funny and wacky website! :D And I am right about that so I blogged about it…

Facebuko is NOT a Social Networking website actually (just to clear things up). It is more likely a funny website powered by Wordpress where you can find humorous and very funny Filipino jokes, funny TV shows, commercials and other social happenings in the Philippines

Here’s a short description of the website which can be found on its About page..

Facebuko is derived from the phrase ‘Facebook ko’ which means ‘my facebook’ in Filipino. Unlike its inspiration Facebook, this is not a social networking website but rather it posts the most talked about in the social network of the author depicted in a humorous and fun way. Facebuko is another of the many websites of Jonas Roque.

Here’s a screenshot of the home page:

Check out Facebuko yourself guys! LOL!

What the F**k is Social Media?

August 5th, 2009

I was browsing over the web news last night and I stumbled upon this wonderful presentation about social media marketing on SlideShare from Marta Kagan, Managing Director of US at Espresso. I didn’t get to see her first part of the What the F**k is Social Media last year and I was totally enlightened by the sequel of her first presentation.

What the F**k is Social Media? – I also wondered about that question when I first heard this popular social media marketing campaign that is going on over the web for quite a long time now. With the tremendous growth of these social networking sites like Facebook, Twitter, blogging, etc., maybe it’s time that people who don’t have any idea about the power of social media sites to really understand how it really works. The sequel – What the F**k is Social Media: One Year Later is really one of the best presentation that I’ve seen that explains best what it is all about.

I won’t make it long for you guys to see the slide… Here you go: :)
