Pacquiao-Mayweather Fight Will Not Happen

January 7th, 2010

Yes. You read it right. The much awaited fight in boxing history will not happen. The Pacquiao vs. Mayweather fight will not happen.

Pacman-Mayweather fight will not happen

Manny Pacquiao’s promoters say his prospective bout with Floyd Mayweather Jr. is dead after a mediation session failed to resolve the fighters’ differences, scrapping what was likely to be the richest fight in boxing history.

The bout was slated for March 13 at the MGM Grand Garden in Las Vegas, but Top Rank said late Wednesday night it couldn’t reach an agreement with Golden Boy Promotions, which represents Mayweather.

The promoters went into mediation on Tuesday to resolve their differences over drug testing for the fight. Both sides claimed every other detail for the fight had been decided.

The fighters apparently were close to a deal after the mediation, but subsequent discussions Wednesday led Top Rank to declare the fight canceled.

Many people expected and waited for this fight to happen. I even told to my self that I will definitely watch this on the big screen live. (if only can I fly to Vegas for this fight) I guess Mayweather is too afraid to fight Manny Pacquiao.

And there we are. Hurt. Depressed. Miserable.

Pacquiao Mayweather Fight Lands in Vegas

December 23rd, 2009

Earlier today, news update came up regarding the Pacquiao vs Mayweather fight come March 13, 2010. It will finally be at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, Nevada. And that’s my bet as well on where the fight will take place next year. The Dallas stadium didn’t get to win the bid unfortunately. Here’s some details about the news:

According to reports, the MGM Grand could generate as much as $28 million in live-gate sales. Also in store are 40,000 closed-circuit seats through MGM/Mirage properties, and at $100 a head could present a total package of $32 million.

And that’s enough to quash Dallas’ $25 million offer.

Pacquiao has fought six times at the MGM Grand, winning four (against Lehlo Ledwaba, Oscar dela Hoya, Ricky Hatton and Miguel Cotto), losing once to Erik Morales and drawing once with Juan Manuel Marquez.

Mayweather, on the other hand, has fought six times at the MGM during his unbeaten run of 40 fights. His wins at MGM came against Gregorio Vargas, Diego Corrales, Jose Luis Castillo, Dela Hoya, Hatton and Marquez. The Pacquiao-Mayweather fight is expected to generate more than $100 million, and both fighters, guaranteed of at least $25 million each, could get as much as $40 million when everything comes in.

Pacquiao vs Mayweather

This is going to be a one hell of a boxing history again! :D I’m excited!

EDIT: The fight is now on hold because of some failed negotiations on the Olympic-style drug testing 48 hours before the fight where Pacquiao failed to agree. Freddie Roach said that Pacquiao is willing to comply with the strict drug testing standards but he won’t allow Pacquiao to have blood drawn 48 hours before the fight.

Manny Pacquiao vs. Miguel Cotto

November 15th, 2009

So today, Nov. 15 in the Philippines / Nov.14 in USA, another biggest fight of boxing history will take place at the MGM Grand Arena in Las Vegas, USA. :) I am pretty excited to see the fight today because this can mark another history for the Philippine Pride, Manny Pacquiao. Some say that if Pacman wins this fight, there will be a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight next.

Pacquiao vs Cotto

I doubt that there will be a Pacquiao-Mayweather fight at all. Mayweather wants to retire undefeated, so it seems like Mayweather is not just fighting for money just like any other boxers. He wants to end his career “undefeated”. So if he will lose weight, chances of winning the fight is definitely not 100% sure win just like what happened to Oscar Dela Hoya.

Anyway, I wish Manny Pacquiao the best on today’s fight.

Make us proud again! ;)
